Tom Cruise has confirmed that there is a Top Gun sequel in the works and that he expects to begin shooting in the next year. He confirmed the news on an Australian talk show on Wednesday morning.

The first film came out in 1986 and starred Tom as Maverick. The film got a few Oscar nominations and won the award for original song with “Take My Breath Away,” which was written by Giorgio Moroder and Tom Whitlock and performed by the band Berlin.
Most people would have assumed that a sequal to the film would have come out years ago, and that at this point we’d be primed for a reboot. But it’s apparently a sequel that is in the works.
