The upcoming sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them now has a title. The film, which is due out in November of 2018 will be called Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
Grindelwald refers to Gellert Grindelwald, a dark wizard that was played by Johnny Depp in the first film. At the end of the last film we found that Grindelwald was up to no good, and in the next film Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) will be trying to stop him.
The characters of Grindelwald and Dumbeldore have a bit of a past according to J.K. Rowling. The two were friends as teens but became distant following a loss in Dumbledore’s family. Also, Dumbledore had a thing for Grindelwald.
“Dumbledore fell in love with Grindelwald, and that added to his horror when Grindelwald showed himself to be what he was.”
David Yates will be directing the film once again. Returning stars include Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Ezra Miller, and Carmen Ejogo.
