HBO announced on Monday that Emmy-winning doc director Marina Zenovich has endeavored to capture the unique spirit of Robin Williams in a documentary titled, Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind.
The upcoming documentary is dedicated to covering Williams’ four-decade career in comedy, from his time as a street performer to his place at the pinnacle of the comedy world. Come Inside My Mind will take time to mention Williams’ origins, his meteoric rise on Mork and Mindy, his Academy Award-winning performance in Good Will Hunting, and his acclaimed Broadway debut, among a host of other topics.
While Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind will spend some time addressing the illness that afflicted the legend during the last years of his life, it seems as though the Robin Williams documentary will devote the lion’s share of its runtime to the man’s genius, not his illness.
Zenovich, who took home an Emmy for Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired, constructed the documentary from an exhaustive amount of research. Come Inside My Mind will feature never before seen footage of Williams including interviews, and home movies. Some of Williams’ most enthusiastic contributors and friends — Billy Crystal, Eric Idle, Whoopi Goldberg, David Letterman, and Steve Martin — show up to fill in the blanks, as well.
For anyone who counted themselves a fan of this versatile, passionate star, Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind should prove endearing, heart-breaking, and enlightening.
Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind premiers Monday, July 16 on HBO and its streaming affiliates.
