Rihanna has been named Harvard’s Humanitarian of the Year for 2017. The singer is being honored for her work in charity, which includes building a breast cancer screening and treatment center in Barbados.
The Harvard Foundation director S. Allen Counter released a statement about the announcement.
“She has also created the Clara Lionel Foundation Scholarship Program (named for her grandmother and grandfather) for students attending college in the U.S. from Caribbean countries. And supports the Global Partnership for Education and Global Citizen Project, a multi-year campaign that will provide children with access to education in over 60 developing countries, giving priority to girls and those affected by lack of access to education in the world today.”
Rihanna celebrated her 29th birthday last week.
