New York rapper Troy Ave has been arrested for a fatal shooting that took place at T.I.’s Irving Plaza concert on Wednesday night. Reports say that Troy was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment and illegal weapons possession.
Surveillance video captured Troy (real name Roland Collins), firing a gun inside one of the dressing rooms at the venue, killing bodyguard Ronald McPhatter. Three others were injured in the shooting, and T.I. was in the venue at the time but had not yet taken to the stage.
After the shooting Troy was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg at the NYU Langone Medical Center, and it seems like the shot might have been accidentally self inflicted.
Apparently some people were under the impression that the shooting had something to do with a beef between Troy and Maino, who was also performing at the show. He is denying these claims.
“Despite having to cope with more senseless violence, I woke up to the usual FALSE and ridiculous lies being circulated by irresponsible members of the media. What transpired was absolutely NOT the result of MYSELF or ANYBODY IN MY CAMP, ENTOURAGE, TRAVELING PARTY or ORGANIZATION IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM.”
T.I. took to his social media to share his condolences.
“My heart is heavy today. Our music is intended to save lives, like it has mine and many others. My heartfelt condolences to the family that suffered the loss and my prayers are with all those injured.”
