The engagement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was officially announced this week after heightened speculation that it would be coming soon. The two made an appearance on Monday in the gardens of Kensington Palace where they shared the big news. Harry explained that he knew Markle was “the one” from “the very first time we met.” The royal couple has planned a May wedding which will take place at Windsor Castle.
The royal family released a statement explaining that following the wedding the Suits actress would eventually become a citizen of the U.K. The process is expected to take a few years and it is unknown whether Markle will end up with dual citizenship or not. William and Harry’s stepmom, Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall spoke out about Meghan joining the family.
“America’s loss is our gain. And we are all absolutely delighted. As you can see, they’re so happy. Sometimes, you know, in a climate where we’re surrounded by a lot of bad news, it’s a real joy to have a bit of good news for once.”
In other good news, Prince William and Kate Middleton are expecting their third child in April.
