Matt Lauer and his wife Annette Roque are reportedly no longer wearing their wedding rings. According to a source, the couple of 19 years are still living together but are taking things “day by day right now.”
Lauer was recently let go from his longstanding position at the Today show. NBC moved quickly with the position after they received a detailed complaint of sexual misconduct. The complaint made it seem likely that “this may not have been an isolated incident.”
Other people have spoken out about Lauer’s behavior since this complaint was filed. Multiple anonymous sources and have shared sexual harassment allegations against the anchor to news outlets. Other sources have said that Lauer frequently cheated on his wife. Apparently, Roque once filed for divorce in 2006 but later withdrew the documents. The couple has three children together, aged 16, 14, and 11.
Roque has now been spotted for the first time since Lauer’s firing. She was seen picking up breakfast in Sag Harbor, New York, and she was not wearing her wedding ring.
Lauer has been apologizing for his part in the allegations, although he claims that some of the stories are untrue. He has stated that in leaving his Today show position he will be spending a lot of time working on himself.
“Repairing the damage will take a lot of time and soul searching, and I’m committed to beginning that effort. It is now my full-time job. The last two days have forced me to take a very hard look at my own troubling flaws. It’s been humbling. I am blessed to be surrounded by people I love. I thank them for their patience and grace.”
Just last year Lauer reportedly signed a new $20 million contract to continue his co-anchor deal.
