Lily Tomlin will be honored at the 23rd annual SAG Awards when she is presented with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.
The SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris explained their decision.
“Lily Tomlin is an extraordinary actress, as equally adept at narrative drama as in comedy roles. But it is through her many original characters that Lily’s creative genius fully shines. She has an ability to create diverse and distinct characters that are at once familiar, eccentric and oh so honest – in a way that illuminates life’s hidden corners.”
Lily will be adding the honor to a long list of other accolades, which include multiple Emmys, multiple American Comedy Awards, two Tony Awards, two Peabody Awards, and also the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.
Lily has had an extensive career in comedy, and is currently starring alongside Jane Fonda on Netflix’s Grace & Frankie. For her work in the role she has already been nominated for two Emmys including Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. You may recall that Tomlin began her professional career on the sketch variety show Laugh-In.
Lily will receive the award during next year’s SAG Awards, which will air on both TNT and TBS on Sunday January 29, 2017.
