The SAG Awards went down on Saturday night which makes it the 22nd consecutive year for the award show. Interestingly, in the midst of so much critique around diversity in Hollywood, the SAG awards had a very different outcome than the Oscar nominations.

There was actually a significant boost in diversity at this award show. Idris Elba won two awards, one for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture in Beasts of No Nation, and the other for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries for Luther.

Uzo Aduba won for Female Actor and Ensemble in a Comedy Series Orange is the New Black, and sweetly brought her high school prom date as her escort.

Viola Davis won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for How to Get Away With Murder, and Queen Latifah won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries for her role in Bessie.

Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture went to Spotlight, which starred Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, Liev Schreiber, John Slattery, Stanley Tucci, and Rachel McAdams among others.

Brie Larson took home the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture for Room, and Leonardo DiCaprio won Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture for The Revenant.

Leo also made news when he was photographed smoking a vape pen, which inspired a lot of jokes about the new “it couple” in Hollywood.
