At Sunday night’s AMA Awards Gigi Hadid performed an impression of Melania Trump which received some backlash from supporters of the new president Donald Trump, as well as people who are against bullying in general.
People tweeted out responses calling Gigi’s impression rude, hateful, and disrespectful. Gigi responded with a handwritten note which she posted to her own social media.
“I was honored to host the AMA’s (sic) last night and to work with some of the most respected writers in the business. I removed or changed anything in the script that I felt took the joke too far, and whether or not you choose to see it, what remained was done in good humor and with no bad intent. I believe Melania understands show business and the way shows are written and run. I apologize to anyone that I offended & have only the best wishes for our country.”
In the skit Gigi faked a heavy European accent and pushed out her lips, as she poked fun of Melania’s seemingly plagiarized Republic National Convention speech.
