The latest James Bond film, Spectre, opens on Nov. 5, but star Daniel Craig isn’t exactly selling it. In a recent interview in Time Out, he pretty much denounced the entire franchise and implied he wants nothing more to do with the role, claiming “it’s a drag” to play the superspy.
“I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists,” said the British actor when asked if he’d continue making Bond films. “No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.”
Not one to mince words, is he.
In case his disdain for the character wasn’t clear, he went on saying, “The best acting is when you’re not concerned about the surface. And Bond is the opposite of that. You have to be bothered about how you’re looking.”
Furthermore, he declared, “The Bond bank is dry. If you’re asking me what would I do with another Bond movie? I haven’t a clue.”
Fret not, though, as there is a glimmer of hope that he might be persuaded to play the iconic character again, if the price was right. The honest actor admitted, “If I did another Bond movie, it would only be for the money.”
He ended this tirade with the following tidbit about who he thinks should play the iconic 007 next.
“Look, I don’t give a f***,” he said. “Good luck to them!”
Was Daniel Craig just having a bad day? The actor seems to be biting the hand that has fed him so nicely this past decade. What do you think about him dissing Bond and his downer attitude towards the franchise?
