Carrie Fisher has passed away at the age of 60. The Star Wars actress went into cardiac arrest while on a flight from London to L.A. on Friday. She was rushed to the hospital and then passed away Tuesday morning.
There was a statement released by family spokesman Simon Halls on behalf of Carrie’s daughter Billie Lourd.
“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning.”
In addition to being a staple of the Star Wars franchise, Carrie was an outspoken advocate for mental health after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She has detailed her issues with drug addictions in the past. The actress recently released a memoir detailing the affair that she had with Harrison Ford.
When Carrie returned to The Force Awakens in 2015 she said that:
“I knew that something enormous was likely going to impact my life from this film and that there was absolutely no way of understanding what that was or was likely to be.”
