With over 7 billion people living on this planet, they say that everyone has at least one lookalike, and these A-list stars confirm that theory. Many celebrities appear to have been reincarnated from the past, as their doppelgängers from centuries ago bear an uncanny resemblance. Click through our list and let us know which star and their historical twin look most alike.
1. Bruce Willis
Although he’s played in a number of war movies like Hart’s War and Tears of the Sun, Willis has never actually served in the military like his historical doppelgänger. Willis and WWII General Douglas MacArthur could definitely pass as twins, if only they were born in the same century.
2. Alec Baldwin
The resemblance between Aloha star Alec Baldwin and the thirteenth President of the United States, Millard Fillmore, is uncanny. Both boast pudgy faces, pursed lips and mysterious glances.
3. Maggie Gyllenhaal
The 37-year-old Honourable Woman actress looks remarkably similar to author and political theorist Rose Wilder Lane. Gyllenhaal, like Lane, is politically active and most well-known for speaking out against George W. Bush’s presidency and the intentions of the War on Iraq.
4. Jay Z
A 1939 photo of a man sitting on a gate in Harlem looks exactly like the famous rapper. The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture unearthed this old school snap of what appears to be Jay-Z’s long lost twin. Jay Z only grew up a few neighborhoods over from his early-20th century clone. Could they actually be related or is Jay Z a blood-sucking vampire?
5. Keanu Reeves
Conspiracy theorists believe that the Matrix star is immortal after a number of historical doppelgängers of Reeves have been discovered, one of them being French actor Paul Mounet. Mounet, who acted during the late 19th century, died of heart disease in 1922, but theorists claim that his body was never found, further supporting the immortality of Reeves.
6. Jennifer Lawrence
The Hunger Games star and her Egyptian twin-actress Zubaida Tharwat have very similar facial characteristics, and look unbelievably alike when Lawrence has her hair dyed dark. Tharwat is one of the few celebrity doppelgängers who is still alive today. She’s currently 75.
7. Jimmy Fallon
The late night talk show host and Turkish revolutionist Mahir Cayan share an unbelievable resemblance to one another. All Fallon needs to do is grow a mustache and you wouldn’t be able to tell the pair apart.
8. Ellen DeGeneres
Henry David Thoreau has been depicted with beady blue eyes in the few color pictures that are available of him. But, besides their bright baby blues, the daytime talk show host and 19th century author and philosopher both share long pronounced noses, sunken eyelids, and narrow faces with prominent cheekbones. All Ellen needs is a beard!
9. John Travolta
This photo of a man from the 1860s looks remarkably similar to the Criminal Activities actor. Both men have light eyes, dark locks, pillowy lips and cleft chins. We’ve seen Travolta make that same pout on more than one occasion.
10. Justin Timberlake
The 34-year-old Tennessee native could be the clone of an unknown man in an 18th century mug shot. Their piercing eyes, small lips, narrow noses and facial hair are nearly identical. Looks like JT was “bringing sexy back” centuries ago.
11. Charlie Sheen
John Brown, a mid-19th century abolitionist who worked to overthrow the institution of slavery in the United States, looks very much like the Anger Management actor. While Brown attempted to overthrow slavery, Sheen worked towards abolishing his sanity.
12. Tommy Lee Jones
The 68-year-old Homesman actor bears a shockingly similar appearance to the 17th President of the United States, Andrew Johnson. Both men are obviously not fans of photos as their faces have appeared annoyed and stern in a number of snaps.
13. Mark Zuckerberg
The 31-year-old Facebook founder and CEO bears an uncanny resemblance to this Velaquez painting of King Philip IV, suggesting that Zuckerberg has been ruling more than just social media for centuries.
14. Jack Black
American Revolutionary patriot and silversmith Paul Revere looks nearly identical to comedian and Kung Fu Panda star Jack Black. Even their mannerisms and coy glances are eerily similar.
15. Nicholas Cage
There’s an interesting story behind Cage and his historical twin. Supposedly, an eBay seller attempted to auction off a photo, taken in 1870, of an unidentified man from Tennessee that he believed proved Cage was some sort of “walking undead/vampire who reinvents himself once every 75 years.” The seller was charging $1,000,000 for the picture, but the auction of the mustached dopppleganger quickly disappeared. Cage reassured David Letterman, “I don’t drink blood and the last time I looked in the mirror I had a reflection.”
