10. Black Power Salute
When accepting their Olympic Gold and Bronze medals at the 1968 Olympics, Americans Tommie Smith and John Carlos threw up the now-iconic (and highly controversial) Black Power Salute in solidarity with the burgeoning civil rights movement. They also accepted the award shoeless in a show of support to their impoverished countrymen.
