13. Harrison Ford

As one of the world’s most well-known actors, Harrison Ford has used his celebrity status to highlight environmental issues worldwide. He has served on the board of Conservation International for more than a decade and is its vice chairman. After purchasing a 325 hectare ranch in Jackson, Wyoming, the Star Wars alum became interested in the environment as he developed a “sense of stewardship” for his land. He has said that being connected to nature in such a way helped him realize “the great needs of the Earth” and since then, Ford has donated nearly half of his property to the Jackson Hole Land Trust for conservation. These days “Indiana Jones” isn’t as interested in the Temple of Doom as he is in conservation of biodiversity, as Ford believes this is “the issue of our times.” His work in support of environmental conservation has been rewarded, as he won the Global Environment Citizen Award in 2002 and, a Central American ant found in Belize and Honduras, was named after him — Pheidole harrisonfordi.
