The Full House revival Fuller House was streaming just mere days before the news broke that Netflix would pick it up for a second season.
Fuller House did open to a lot of mixed opinions from both the critics and the fans, but it can’t be denied that the TV show was a fan favorite and that the hype around the revival has been huge. Netflix does not release ratings so it is unknown exactly how many people have tuned in, but it appears to have been plenty.
The spin-off is set in modern day picking up where the character D.J. Tanner-Fuller is widowed with three children (sound familiar?). She is raising the kids with the help of her sister Stephanie Tanner and bestie Kimmy Gibler. All the original actress returned to fill their roles and are played by Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber, respectively.
Other returning actors include Bob Saget, John Stamos, Dave Coulier and Lori Loughlin, but the show is notably missing the Olsen twins who together played Michelle Tanner in the original series.
There is still a glimmer of hope that Mary-Kate and Ashley might return however, and the creator of the show Jeff Franklin hasn’t given up trying.
“I tried. We all tried to persuade them to come and play. They decided not to at this time. We’re hopeful at some point in the future, they may change their minds and reprise Michelle. We only need one of them!”
The spin-off itself has been in the works for quite some time, and Jeff says he was actually trying for ten years to get it picked up.
“I knew that this kind of excitement was going to be there, but nobody else seemed to get it. I was pitching to networks that ‘Full House’ reruns were beating every night … For some reason, a whole bunch of networks didn’t understand the hunger that was out there for this show. It was baffling me. Netflix finally stepped up, and that’s why it’s happening now.”
